  1. Control Data Systems Industrial Wireless Communications

  2. Company background • Privately owned technology company, with a focus on Wireless Sensor Networks • Located in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, inside the largest technology park in North-Western Romania (Transylvania) • In operation since 1994 • Highly specialized team of 20 engineers and physicists • In 2015 has acquired the Industrial Wireless division of Nivis LLC, a US based leading developer of technology for Wireless Sensor Networks • 10+ patent applications (pending or issued) in the area of Wireless Sensor Networks authored by company resources • Strategic partner with the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca and the Technical University of Iasi for research activities related to Wireless Sensor Networks • Active member of the Wireless Compliance Institute (WCI) • Active member of IEC

  3. Company expertise • 802.15.4 based industrial grade networks • ISA100.11a background in standard inception, stack development and interoperability tests • Wireless Hart expertise in the stack implementation and interoperability tests • RF module development • Backbone router and Gateway development • Wireless network management software design and implementation • Cross vendor compatibility testing

  4. Industrial wireless requirements • Determinism - Time diversity - Collision avoidance - Frequency diversity - Automatic Repeat-reQuest (ARQ) - Spectrum management • Path diversity - Mesh topology - Graph routing - Duocast - Ease of deployment • Advanced security • - Link and transport layer security • - Policy based • - Time stamped • Low power consumption • - Sleep mode for routing devices • Modern design • - Object oriented architecture • - Common plant infrastructure • - IPv6 ready at device level

  5. Open standards based solution - The entire ISA100.11a stack is constructed employing widely industry accepted and proven standards - Stack architected in strict adherence to the reference ISO model - Currently implemented on top of 802.15.4, however new variants are in the works using different PHY layers (802.15.4a – UWB, giving 6Mbps data throughput)

  6. Research • European Space Agency funded research - 3 projects to date • Other partnerships with Research organizations: Sintef Norway and Tecnalia Spain • Innovative activities in definition and implementation of wireless standards • Research targeted towards inception of wireless communication technology • On the ground and in-flight applications • Applicability in industrial environment

  7. OEM products • Wireless modems, OEM embedded in process automation instruments • Wireless router boards (OEM), designed to build reliable, redundant infrastructures • Open standard based (ISA100.11a and Wireless Hart)

  8. Products with CDS technology inside • ATEX Zone 2 wireless routers (Pepperl+Fuchs, Yokogawa, Stahl) • Flow measurement (Flowserve) • Valve position monitoring (Eltav) • Machine condition monitoring (GE Bently) • Gas detection (GasSecure/Draeger, TLV) • Industrial process monitoring (Yokogawa) • Steam trap monitoring (SpiraxSarco, Bitherm, Armstrong)

  9. Customers • Yokogawa - Japan • Kongsberg Maritime – Norway • GasSecure / Draeger - Norway • Stahl – Germany • Pepperl+Fuchs – Germany • Thales Alenia Space – France • GE Bently – USA • GE MDS – USA • Armstrong – USA • Tyco Scott - USA • SpiraxSarco – UK • Bitherm - Spain

  10. End user applications • Gas monitoring on oil platforms and refineries (with Kongsberg Maritime and GasSecure/Draeger – for StatOil Norway) • Personnel monitoring in hazardous locations (with Tecnalia for Petronor Spain) • Temperature and vibration monitoring for satellite assembly (for Thales Alenia Space France)
