  3. O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand. ~~Isaiah 64:8 (NLT)

  4. God starts to sculpt our hearts by calling us to new life with Him

  5. The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you… (cont’d) ~~Genesis 12:1-9 (NLT)

He took his wife, Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all his wealth—his livestock and all the people he had taken into his household at Haran and… (cont’d) ~~Genesis 12:1-9 (NLT)

  7. …headed for the land of Canaan. When they arrived in Canaan, Abram traveled through the land as far as Shechem. There he set up camp beside the oak of Moreh. At that time, the area was inhabited by Canaanites. Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” And Abram built an… (cont’d) ~~Genesis 12:1-9 (NLT)

  8. …altar there and dedicated it to the Lord, who had appeared to him. After that, Abram traveled south and set up camp in the hill country, with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east. There he built another altar and dedicated it to the Lord, and he worshiped the Lord. Then Abram continued traveling south by stages toward the Negev. ~~Genesis 12:1-9 (NLT)

  9. 1. It is God that initiates the call

  10. We love because he first loved us. ~~1 John 4:19 (NIV)

  11. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. ~~John 10:3-4 (NLT

  12. 2. God calls you to leave your old life so that he can show you a better one

  13. The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous…” ~~Genesis 12:1 (NLT)

  14. After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you.” ~~Luke 22:20 (NLT)

  15. Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant. ~~Hebrews 9:14-15 (NLT)

  16. 3. When God calls he promises to make you a blessing to others

  17. “I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” ~~Genesis 12:2-3 (NLT)

  18. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. ~~2 Corinthians 4:7 (NLT)

  19. 4. The appropriate response to the call that God places on your life is faith

  20. So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed… ~~Genesis 12:4 (NLT)

  21. It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. ~~Hebrews 11:8 (NLT)

  22. “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” He was even called the friend of God. ~~James 2:23 (NLT)

  23. 5. When you take up God’s call, it should first affect your family life

  24. So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. He took his wife, Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all his wealth—his livestock and all the people he had taken… (cont’d) ~~Genesis 12:4-6 (NLT)

  26. 6. When you take up God’s call, in gratitude you want to worship Him

  27. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” And Abram built an altar there and dedicated it to the Lord, who had appeared to him. After that, Abram traveled south and set up camp in the hill country, with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east.
