  2. How can we communicate using IT? Not anymore…we can now talk face to face in the same room, or in a different building, or even in a different country using… 20 years ago, there was only one way to carry out a face to face conversation… …and that was being in the same room as the other person

  3. How can we communicate using IT? Messenger services and chat rooms Social networking sites Webcams

  4. More than words Even though we can talk face to face, a lot of the time we are communicating is spent conveying what we are thinking, through: ? our use of emotion the way we question things our use of emotion our use of sign and body language

  5. Know your audience How would you explain IT-related information to other people? How about teaching your Grandparents to use your games console?

  6. Exchanging information safely But how? Ensuring that data protection regulations are met When communicating and exchanging information using IT, you have a responsibility to ensure you’re doing so safely. Checking that your data is secure By making sure that firewalls are in place

  7. What impact can IT have? As we have seen, there are advantages in using IT to communicate, but there can be disadvantages too… and hoax emails, phishing scams and spam mail can encourage us to give away sensitive information. We don’t always know who is out there trying to communicate with us,

  8. What will you learn? After completing this unit you will: Be able to communicate information to suit audience purpose and content Understand the impact of IT on individuals, communities and society Be able to use IT tools to communicate and exchange information
