Future Proofing the Lagos Energy Sector Lagos State Government in partnership UK Department for International Development (DFID) engaged Atkins to undertake a Future Proofing Cities Project on the Lagos Energy Sector. The aim of the project is to provide Lagos State with evidence based risk and opportunity evaluation to inform set of investable energy sector projects which support the PATH Agenda and embed resilience, flexibility and sustainability. Lagos Energy Sector Project is the First Future Proofing Cities Project in Africa.

State-Wide Energy Audits • Over 13,800 locations have been audited so far • Results reveal that: • Just under 10% of the power demanded by Lagosians is being met by the national grid • A total of over 17,000 generators; implying that every location has at least 1 generator • A total of approximately 162,000 litres of diesel is being consumed a day resulting in 178lbs of CO2 emitted per household per day • On average, Lagosians power themselves at a cost of N44/kWh; almost 4 times the cost of supply from the grid

  29. Lagos Energy Locator One of the goals of the state-wide energy audit program is to audit all state-owned facilities and identify all locations with on a mapping tool. Lagos Energy Academy • Targeted at developing employable, skilled technicians and professionals in the Lagos Energy sector • Provides comprehensive, industry-standard technical and soft skills training in the power, public lighting, traffic management and energy development sectors • The academy will also have assembly facility’s for streetlights (bulkheads) and traffic signals equipment • Delivers socio-economic benefits by building local capacity • Addresses the capacity building challenges within the energy sector.
