PROGRESS OF RAILS IN RWANDA • RAILS Establishment in Rwanda on 16th July 2012. • Awareness about RAILS was done. • 7 members of the core learning team(CLT) that will support the Rwanda portal on www.erails.net were selected. • Setup of the national learning team(NLT). • The total number of people that were engaged in RAILS are 23 whereby 6 are women and 19 are men.

RAILS CHALLENGES • Inadequate capacity for packaging and dissemination of agricultural information and knowledge • Digital divide on using eRAILS tools among the National Learning Teams (NLTs). • Delay of approval from policy makers. • Inconsistency of created websites through eRAILS portal in different institutions. • Untimely communication between researchers and end-users of results at national and regional level • Limited internet connectivity in some institutions. • Insufficient ICT equipments and infrastructure set up. • Poor Linkage between RAILS and DONATA.

RAILS ACHIEVEMENTS • ACHIEVEMENTS OF RAILS for RWANDA • The National Learning Team (NLT) and members of Core Learning Team to support the development of the national AIS gateway are established. • The national awareness about RAILS was done through organized national meetings and workshops in the different parts of the country.

HOW TO IMPROVE KNOWLEDGE SHARING and MANAGEMENT • KNOWLEDGE SHARING and MANAGEMENT IMPROVEMENT for RAB as an INSTITUTION. • Architecture and design of information systems: E.g; E-Libraries...,technologies such as new social software tools such as wikis and blogs • Research and extension results framing (standardisation of content, user friendliness) • Interactivity : researcher-researcher, researcher-partners, researcher-farmer, farmer to farmer

Cont’d • Increasing attention to knowledge sharing through improving collaboration with external organizations: partners, suppliers and customers. • Knowledge and information packaging skills improvement through conducting relevant trainings.

  16. KNOWLEDGE SHARING and MANAGEMENT IMPROVEMENT for RWANDA as a Country • Sensitization of the Private sector to increasingly commit to Knowledge Management. • Building forums for Knowledge Management and sharing.
