Objectives • To address the following questions: • What are colleges looking for in an applicant? • How do I best use my time in high school to give me more college options? • By the end of this workshop, you will be able to identify what steps you can take in high school to increase your college options.

  3. The Admissions Decision Process • When do students start applying to college? • What is a recruiter? An admissions committee? • What is the role of the admissions committee? • What five key categories of the application will the admissions committee be looking at most closely?

  4. The 5 Key Categories in an Application • Academic Transcript • Extracurricular Activities • SAT/ACT Scores • Personal Statement • Letters of Recommendation

Profile of Reed College • Reed was founded in 1908 in Portland, Oregon, and is regarded as one of the nation's pre-eminent institutions of the liberal arts and sciences. • Population: 1,400 (46 states and 41 foreign countries represented) • Distinctions: In the life sciences, Reed produces more Ph.D.s than any other institution of higher learning. • Classes: Conference-style, interactive, small classes (average of 15 students) • SAT (middle 50%) Combined: 1940-2210 • GPA Average: 3.9 • Acceptance Rate: 33%
