  1. College Application Process Hello, I am the Naviance Navigator. This presentation will guide you through the College Application for Egg Harbor Township High School

  3. Where Should I Be? • All students should complete their Resume in the “About Me” tab in Family Connection. • All students should have a list of colleges to which they are applying. This list should include; reach, match and safety colleges.

Applying to College, What You Need to Do What you need to do, if applying to a Common Application College: • Create a Common Application account (on Common App.com.) • Complete the Common Application Account Matching Form in Family Connection • Request your high school transcript for ALL the colleges you are applying to in Family Connection • Add ALL the colleges you are applying to in Family Connection and indicate you have applied • Send teachers you have requested to write a letter of recommendation a thank you note in Family Connection What you need to do, if you are not applying to a Common Application College: • Collapse the Common Application Account Matching Form by clicking Not Needed at the bottom right side of the form • Request your high school transcript for ALL the colleges you are applying to in Family Connection • Add ALL the colleges you are applying to in Family Connection and indicate you have applied • Send teachers you have requested to write a letter of recommendation a thank you note in Family Connection

Senior to Do List Be organized and don't procrastinate! • By now, you should have a Naviance account set up and the Resume, Game Plan and Brag Sheet must have been completed. • Register for October/November SAT/ACT/subject exams. Be aware of registration deadlines. • Follow up with the teachers you asked to write you letters of recommendation. • Meet with your counselor and narrow your college list. You will be listing the colleges you are thinking of applying to on Naviance Family Connection. • Continue to request college information (via phone, email or postcard) and be sure to attend our College Fair. Set up interviews, if applicable, with colleges you are sure you are applying. • You must return a signed Parent Permission Form before your transcripts can be sent to colleges. This form can be found on Naviance and printed out. • Write your Essay/Personal Statement. • Complete online college applications accordingly. Watch deadlines. YOU ARE RESONSIBLE for knowing all college requirements and deadlines before you apply. • Complete one Transcript Request Form for each application. Potentially, you will be requesting your transcript to be sent to your colleges through Naviance. • Check with your counselor in September to see if this is the case. • If you are an athlete, hand in your NCAA Clearinghouse form. • Begin to research scholarship opportunities immediately.

How to Apply to College • Students will apply to college via: • The Common Application peocess (www.commonapp.org) • Directly, using the college’s on-line application process • The college’s paper application process • Remember: the email used for Common App Org must be identical to the email you use for the Account Matching form in Family Connection.

  7. Application Deadlines It is important to remember college application deadlines for the following application types. • Early Action ( Non-Binding Contract) • Early Decision (Binding Contract) • Regular Admission • Rolling Admission

Colleges I’m Applying To • In Family Connection click on “Colleges.” • Then click on “Colleges I’m Applying To.” • Fill out the “FERPA” Agreement Form in your Common Application account, if you are applying to a Common Application College. • Very important! The email address students use to login into their Common Application account MUST be the same email they enter in the “Common App Account Matching ” Agreement in Family Connection. • Click Match.

Add Colleges To List • Click the Colleges tab • Under “Colleges I’m Applying To” click • If applying to a Common Application College, complete the Common Application Account Matching Form • Click “Add to this list.” • Check “Decision Type”(Regular, Early, Rolling). • Click “Request Transcript” for each college your applying to, Common Application and non-Common Application colleges • Click on “Look Up,” add ALL the colleges where you have applied. • Once you have submitted your application you must click “I have submitted my application.” If this is not checked your transcript will not be sent. • Click “Add Colleges.” Once a college is added YOU can not delete it in Family Connection.

Common Application Colleges I’m Applying To • Colleges that utilize the Common Application will ask you if your are applying via the Common Application. • After adding the college you are applying to, for Common Application colleges, under “Applying via Common App?” you MUST click “Unknown” and in the dropdown box click Yes or No to indicate whether you applied via Common Application or via the colleges online application process.

Symbols • In “Colleges I’m Applying To” under the title “Submissions” you will see symbols: • A blue empty computer monitor: the college accepts guidance documents electronically but is not a Common Application college • A blue computer monitor w/ CA in it: Accepts guidance documents electronically and is a Common Application college. • A blue computer monitor w/ CA and a line, indicates it a Common Application college and accepts will guidance documents sent electronically although you did not applied via Common Application. • A postage stamp: The college does not accept guidance documents electronically, they must be mailed to the college CA CA

  12. Transcript Requests • Students must give the guidance staff at least 10 working daysprior to the application deadline date to process your supporting data: • Transcript. • Letter of Recommendation • Etc. • Official Transcripts must be sent directly from the Guidance Office. Official transcripts will not be given directly to students.

  13. Teacher Recommendation Letters • Students MUST verbally request a letter of recommendation from a teacher. Do not send them an e-mail as your first correspondence! • Once you verbally request a letter you need to: • Login into your Naviance account, • Click Colleges I’m Applying To • Locate the Teacher Recommendations section near the bottom of the page • Click “Add Requests” • Select the teacher in the dropdown box • Under “Personal note to Teacher” write the teacher a thank you note. • Click “Update Requests.”

  14. Teacher Recommendation Letters • If the teacher chooses not to send letters electronically you will need to provide him/her with any forms required by the college and stamped addressed envelopes for the colleges. • The teacher will mail the letters directly to the colleges.

  15. Acceptance Notification • Once you are notified by Admissions, please inform the Guidance office of your results and add the results in your Naviance account. • Click the pencil “Results Edit” under “Colleges I’m Applying To.” • Scroll down to the results arrow bar. • Click option Accepted, Denied, or Withdrawn. • Scroll to bottom and click “Update Application.”

  16. Standardized Tests SAT • October 11, 2014 -Registration deadline TBD • November 8 , 2014 - Registration deadline TBD • Register at www.collegeboard.org ACT • September 13,2014 - Registration deadline TBD • October 25, 2014 Registration deadline TBD. • Register at www.actstudent.org

  17. NCAA • All students looking to compete in Division I or Division II athletics in college MUST register with the NCAA. • Register at www.eligibilitycenter.org • MUST request an NCAA transcript through NCAA in order for the guidance department to send your transcript electronically to NCAA.

  18. Counselor Availability • Counselors are available to answer questions regarding the college application. • Counselors will also meet with students to review their transcript/graduation requirements and future plans.
