  1. 5 Tips and Tricks of Getting a Sun Kissed Tan It’s February which means that the sun is preparing to pierce through the clouds in a few months and unleash its magic to the western hemisphere. We couldn’t be happier about the news. We look forward to spending hours on end by the beach basking in the sun. After all, it has a ton of benefits for the body including the famous vitamin D which is great for bones, teeth, and skin. The sun also boosts levels of serotonin, a component that has been known to alleviate anxiety making you a happier, healthy individual. To really glow during summer, having a sun-kissed tan is a great idea. It awakens your beauty and makes your skin look amazing. Some beauty experts actually claim that a golden-brown tan also helps you look slimmer—in a good way. Before you adorn that sun-kissed glow, however, there are certain things you should keep in mind. Below are 5 tips and tricks to get that perfect tan and stand out from the crowd.

  2. Pump up on protection Long before you decide to have a tan, you should think about protection. This is a vital step of the process unless you want to attract skin cancer and an array of other skin issues. While you are at it, think beyond your usual sunscreen. Sure, sunscreen is part of the package but to really protect your skin, consider looking for something more. Check the bottle for the terms “UVA Logo” and “broad spectrum”. This will protect you from both UVA and UVB rays. Additionally, be sure to apply the correct amount (about one teaspoon for the face and neck region) and re- apply after every two hours. Take a break from the sun Even with all that protection, the skin can take a beating if not given a break from the sun. Your tan will also suffer along with your skin. To have a long-lasting tan and a healthy skin, seek some shade occasionally to reduce UV intensity and the risk of sunburn. Timing is everything The term “tanning cut-off” refers to the point when the skin is physically unable to produce any more melanin—the tanning pigment. Each of us has a different tanning point. The rule of thumb is to avoid hanging out in the sun when the point has reached, failure to which you will be subjecting your skin to harm from UV rays. Don’t be afraid to exfoliate Many people shy away from scrubbing their tanned skin for fear of causing harm to it. The truth, however, is that you need to exfoliate regularly and gently. Doing this will avoid buildup and prevent dead skin from blocking the sun’s rays. Remember to be gentle else you will get all the color out. Focus on natural tanning supplements Forget about the myriad of supplements on the market purporting to help your skin get a sun- kissed tan; many have no bases whatsoever. To be safe, indulge in fruits and vegetables rich in beta-carotene and avoid the risk of burning your skin. These come in their numbers: kales, spinach, carrots, peppers, melons, and cantaloupes.

  3. As spring comes around, how about making adequate preparations for the warm, sunny months ahead? Get your tanning products in time and enjoy a safe and beautiful sun-kissed glow as you run around during summer.
