    2. Foreword The nuclear power is stepping into a new era of a broad perspective in China. Recently, the State Council has approved the NP development program before 2000, that is to attain the goal of 40GW capacity in operation, in addition to have 18GW capacity under construction. In parallel of batch construction of evolutional 2nd generation NPPs (which are mainly designed and manufactured by Chinese vendors), the first batch of 3rd generation plant will start construction from 2009. According to the national mid-long-term programmed goal the China made (means self-relied design and indigenous manufacture) 3rd generation NPPs will commercially deployed around 2015, and will hopefully be main stream products of nuclear power market in China after 2020.

    3. Status of Operating NPPs
