London is the capital and most populated city in the United Kingdom.Standing on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for over two thousand years, its history going back to its founding by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London has a wide range of people and culture, and more than 300 languages are spoken within Greater London. The Greater London Authority currently estimated its population to be 8.6 million, making it the largest city in the European Union, and accounting for 12.5 per cent of the UK population. London is one of the most diverse cities in the world.
