  3. SPAIN Spain is not the second most visited country in the world for nothing (the first is France). Spain's attractions are matchless. But how you enjoy your trip to Spain will depend very much on where you decide to take it, for Spain is not a single, homogeneous country, but many countries in one. It has 17 regions or communities, the largest being Castilla y León

  4. Castilla y León The Autonomous Community of Castile and León is located to the north west of Madrid, and has no coastline. It is the largest community in Spain, covering over 94,000 square kilometres, and with a 2005 population of two and a half million people. Castilla y Leon consists of 9 provinces, and they are Burgos, Avila, Salamanca, Leon, Zamora, Palencia, Soria, Valladolid,Segovia. (Benavente, the town in which you will be staying, is in Zamora)

With its 24 Romanesque churches of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries it has been called a "museum of Romanesque art". Zamora is the city with the most Romanesque churches in all of Europe. Zamora has a unique Romanesque monument, with peculiar characteristics which are very difficult to find in other places It is the quintessential city of Old Castile, blending ancient and modern but noted mainly for its Romanesque architecture.   6. Iglesia de la Magdalena You can explore Zamora's highlights in about 4 hours. Stroll along the main square, dusty Plaza Canovas; cross the arched Romanesque bridge from the 1300s; and take in at least some of the Romanesque churches for which the town is known, many dating from the 12th century. The cathedral is the best example, but others include Iglesia de la Magdalena, on Rua de los Francos, and Parroquia de San Ildefonso, on Calle Ramos Carrión. The local celebration in honour of the Virgen de la Vega to celebrate the torno al llamado (Monday of Pascuilla). Fiestas del toro enmaromado. Celebrated the day before the corpus (June), where the young men run (Running of the Bulls) in front of a long rope held on the horns of a bull.
