Scheduling Timeline • Timeline • February 13th– Provide students with scheduling materials • Feb. 21st– Individual 15-minute scheduled appointments with parents as needed • February 22nd- Signing Day (Course Registration form due with teacher signatures) • April 22nd- Course requests passed out for final changes • April 26th– Last day to change course requests *** NO changes will be made once schedules are passed out in August***

Keys to Successful Scheduling • Life as a Senior is BUSY • Fall  College App Process, Sports, Theater, Clubs, Jobs, School work • Winter  Continue App Process, Mid-Year Reports, Major Concerts/Competitions, Scholarships, Semester Exams, Research Paper • Spring  College Decisions, AP/Language Exams, Prom, Final Exams, Graduation • What diploma(s) do you hope to earn? • Honors and/or Global Scholars • Think about your goals for post-graduation, then: • TRY TO STRIKE A BALANCE BETWEEN CHALLENGING YOURSELF WITH YOUR COURSE SELECTION AND YOUR GPA • Seek out opportunities to enhance your resume • Shadowing, volunteering, summer experiences, college visits

Global Scholars Diploma • If you are in the program, you will… • Need to continue to take either the 4th or 5th year of the same language • Complete other badge requirements • Complete coursework required by the program outside of your regular schedule • You need to take “Global Issues” in 12th grade if you did not take it this year. • Take AP Environmental Science or Environmental Studies if you did not take it this year.

Typical Senior Schedule • British Literature and Composition or AP English Literature and Composition • AP recommended for grade of B or above • Math • Science  AP Chemistry, AP Biology, & Enviro (regular) are 2 periods • 4th Social Studies for Honors Diploma • Global Issues/Sociology/Psychology all count as electives • Language/Electives/Remaining grad. requirements • Electives/Remaining grad. Requirements • Health, PE, Financial Literacy • Study Hall

Benefits of AP • AP = Advanced Placement • College-level courses taught at the high school. • In May, students will take the AP tests for potential college credits. • Scores range from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest). Check with your college/university to learn the score you must earn to receive credit. • Scores of 3 or better earn credit at all Ohio public colleges. • Weighted GPA if earn B- or above • Cost is approximately $90 per exam.

High School Options(Non-traditional course options) • Summer Health and/or PE –June 4-June 22 • Packets available today—Payment due by March 2 • Summer Ecology/Gardening Course • Must have Biology credit first • Educational Options—Must be Pre-Approved • Independent Study • In conjunction with a teacher • Online Courses • Various courses not offered at GHS • Credit Flexibility • Testing out/showing mastery - January & August

Mentoring and School Leadership • Freshman participate in this program as mentees • 10th-12th grade students mentor small groups of freshman • Must have a full-year study hall to participate • Consists of peer tutoring, transition to high school, study skills training, etc. • Worth 0.5 credits for a full year • Applications available today! • Discipline, maturity, essay, GPA

College Course Options • College Credit Plus—CCP • May be taken at the college campus or online • Would be at no cost to the family • Indicate intention on course registration form • Complete and submit Intent to Participate form by April 1stto your school counselor--Pick up today! • Examples would be at OSU-Newark and Central Ohio Technical College (COTC)

College Credit Plus (CCP) Meetings • College Credit Plus (CCP) Meetings: • If you want to take classes at OSU-Newark next year, we strongly recommend attendance at the OSU Academy CCP Register at scarletandgray.osu.edu with the access code: NWKCCP19 by Thursday, Feb. 21.  • The meeting will take place in Founders Hall Auditorium at 6pm, check-in at 5:30pm (1179 University Drive Newark, OH 43055).

College Credit Plus—OSU Newark • OSU-Newark • Apply to OSU-Newark Academy: https://academy-ccp.osu.edu/ • Print out School Counselor Form and give to your counselor and request transcript to be sent to OSU-Newark • Set-up meeting with CCP Counselor at OSU-Newark • Follow-up with school counselor in August to make sure schedule is set for 19-20

College Credit Plus--COTC • COTC—Central Ohio Technical College • Apply to COTC as CCP student to take classes on campus: http://www.cotc.edu/Admissions/college-credit-plus • COTC @ GHS • Taught by a professor at GHS • Courses offered based on student interest • For 19-20- Critical Thinking (Intro. level philosophy course) and Nutrition • School counselors will coordinate an application session in the spring

College Course Options--Denison • Licking County Scholars at Denison University • Discounted price for families • Application process • https://denison.edu/forms/licking-county-scholar-admission-application • Request transcript and letter of recommendation from your school counselor • If admitted, meet with registrar at Denison University to set up class • Meet with school counselor to set up schedule for 19-20

  19. Picking Up Your Schedule • You will be picking up a copy of your official schedule in August • No schedule changes will be permitted once schedule have been passed out • Once the school year starts, the only schedule changes that will be made are for the purposes of improper placement. • i.e. changing to appropriate rigor level (languages and math)
