Why are we doing this? • Prevent & manage obesity, adopting healthier behaviours • 91% Islington Adults do not exercise regularly 2010/11 29% (5500) C&YP • 64% Islington Adults do not eat a healthy diet 2006-8 • 18% Islington Adults are obese 2006-8 1% (188) Reception 22% (349) Year 6 www.ncl.nhs.uk

Obesity costsindividual & local economy • 23% (42,273) registered patients are overweight GP dataset 2011 • 14% (24,982) registered patients are obese GP dataset 2011 • 9 wards higher prevalence, 3 wards lower than Islington average • 22:38 practices ratio of obese adults • 5 practices > 1000 obese patients www.ncl.nhs.uk

  4. What works?Evidence base • BMI overweight ≥25 / ≥27.5; Obese ≥30 • Multi component • Behaviour change theory application • Prevent, Promote, Minimise • 8-12 weeks duration (ideally 12m continued support) • Group or 1:1 intervention www.ncl.nhs.uk

  6. What do we expect?outcomes Provider has to achieve • ≥ 550 participants per year • 5-10% weight loss over 6 months • 30% maintain weight & prevent weight gain @ 3 & 6months www.ncl.nhs.uk

  7. Measuring successevaluation & service improvement • Demonstrate improvements in eating behaviours, PA levels, Levels of sedentary behaviour & quality of life • Benchmarking, Midpoint, Completion, 3 & 6m followup www.ncl.nhs.uk
