  1. Checking the example • In a moment, you are going to see a sample paragraph that is similar to how yours should look. • It is about a completely different topic, but the structure should be very similar. • Check carefully to see that your paragraph LOOKS like this and includes the same “sandwich ingredients” (topic & concluding sentences, transitions, etc.).

  2. How does this example compare? Colorado is a beautiful state in many ways. First of all, it has incredible mountains. The white snowcaps cutting through the blue sky is amazing to see. Secondly, it is full of wildlife that is gorgeous to see in the distance. From large animals like elk and moose to the small chipmunks chewing on a leaf, the wildlife add to the landscape. Lastly, the wildflowers in the ditches take a person’s breath away. Seeing the purples, pinks, and yellows all blending together is wonderful. The mountains, wildlife, and plants in Colorado all work together to enhance its beauty. Notice how the details add depth and meaning to this paragraph?

  3. Self Edit Now that you have had a chance to see a model paragraph, run this final check to make sure your paragraph LOOKS and SOUNDS the way you want it to. • Does your topic sentence include the phrases, “negative effects” and “too much technology?” • Do you include appropriate transition words to cue your reader (One reason, Another reason, etc.)? • Does EACH sentence begin with a capital letter? • Do you count eight periods? • Read over your paper AND run spell check. Is your paragraph FREE of any spelling or capitalization errors? Once you can confidently answer “Yes!” to all of these questions, please make sure to save your changes. You may close out of the app and wait for the next set of instructions.

  4. Assignment • Type your paragraph in your Pages app. • Use your paragraph sandwich/strips to guide you as you type. Remember to add transitions! • When you finish typing, PROOFREAD your paper for: • Capitalization errors. • Spelling errors. • Punctuation errors. (does every sentence end with a punctuation mark?) • Copy & paste your paragraph into Google Docs. • Share your work with me as we discussed. H#Last Name, First Name, Tech Para
