Checking the Required Conditions

Checking the Required Conditions. Check these 3 boxes. Enlarge Residual Plot and visually check: 1) Are errors (residuals) centered around 0 -- checking if E( )= 0). 2) Is there any pattern to the magnitude of the errors -- checking if   varies for different values of x.

  1. Checking the Required Conditions

  2. Check these 3 boxes

  3. Enlarge Residual Plot and visually check: 1) Are errors (residuals) centered around 0 -- checking if E()= 0). 2) Is there any pattern to the magnitude of the errors -- checking if  varies for different values of x

  4. Prepare to do a histogram of the standardized residuals. Make bins from -3 to +3. Could be -3, -2.75, -2.5, etc. but here we just do -3,-2, -1, etc. because there are only 10 observations. Select Histogram from Data Analysis menu

  5. Input Range = Standardized Residuals Bin Range = Standard Error Column Check Chart Output

  6. Enlarge histogram Click on grey background -- Delete Click on legend -- Delete Right mouse click on a bar-- Select Format Data Series Select Options Set Gap width to 0

  7. Does the histogram look relatively normal? -- Checking to see if the errors follow a normal distribution
