Old model vs New model • From 2014 students will be evaluated on the following criteria: • Meeting minimum admission requirements • Available supervisory capacity • Whether research topic can be supervised • Assessment of supporting documents i.e research outline • Critical issues: students must visit the website for the selection criteria and the requirements of the research outline/narrative/essay.
Application dates: 2014 • 2 steps apply for student number and then for admission • 16 September 2013 – 15 November 2013 • Online only • All students who want to study must apply • Exceptions: • CSET (excluding Computing) – to contact mandd@unisa.ac.za • Selection degrees handled at Departments e.g. • MA in Clinical psychology • PhD in Consulting
Registration dates: 2014 • Online only • 26 November 2013 – 15 March 2013 • Re-registration subject to progress • Research proposal module max 2 years to complete • RPM results due by 30 November 2013 • No marks allocated to RPM • Prerequisite for research component • Exceptions: • CSET (excluding computing)
NQF levels • Higher Certificate (5) • Advanced Certificate (6) • Diploma (6) • Advanced Diploma (7) • Bachelor's (7 or 8) • Advanced Bachelor’s degree (240 credits), follows on first undergraduate degree

Master’s degrees • Minimum admission requirements • Hons • PG diploma (NQF level 8) • Curriculum: Research degree RPM and a dissertation Or Coursework/structured degree Modules, RPM and a dissertation of limited scope
Doctoral degrees • Minimum admission requirements • Masters degree in the field /related field • Curriculum Research only • RPM and thesis
Cancellations • Examination modules • May cancel and forfeit minimum fees • Research component (rpm, dissertation, thesis). • May cancel but forfeit all fees
Deferment • Official break from studies • Must apply for deferment before registration commences • If already registered – it is a cancellation • If not registered – it is a deferment • May apply twice one year at a time
Want to submit for examination • 15 June – September/Spring graduation • 15 November – April/Autumn graduation • Inform Unisa 6 weeks before the submission date • No specific date when M&D results are released
