  2. Safety Goggles • Essential part of personal protection in the laboratory • Protects eyes from damaging substances • Used for chemicals, heating & glass

  3. Graduated Cylinder • Used to measure liquids in milliliters • Comes in many different sizes • Most accurate tool for measuring liquid volume

  4. Funnel • Used to pour substances from large mouth containers to small mouth containers • Also can separate solids and liquids with filter paper

  5. Pipette Use to add liquids drop by drop.

  6. Beaker • Holds liquids while they are being stirred or heated • Comes in a variety of sizes • Made of glass but can withstand heating

  7. Hot Hands • Used to pick up hot objects • Caution - be sure to grip the material carefully

  8. Beaker tongs Use to pick up hot beakers and flasks.

  9. Flask • Used to store liquids • Is used in place of beakers if a stopper is needed • Comes in a variety of sizes

  10. Test Tubes • Holds liquids for observation or testing • Comes in different sizes

  11. Test Tube Tongs • Holds test tubes while heating • Can pick up hot test tubes

  12. Test Tube Rack • Holds test tubes during observation and testing of substances • Also used during cleaning of test tubes

  13. Ring Stand • An apparatus used to support material

  14. Hand Lens • Enlarges medium-sized objects for study • Useful for studying details of features of objects

  15. Triple Beam Balance • Used for measuring the mass of an object in grams

  16. Double pan balance Use to measure the mass of objects in grams.

  17. Spring Scale Used to measure the weight of objects or the amount of force in grams or Newtons.

  18. Thermometer • Measures the temperature of various substances in degrees Celsius

  19. Meter stick Used to measure length in meters, centimeters, or millimeters.

  20. Petri Dish • Used for growing molds and bacteria • Also used for holding small specimen

  21. Hot Plate • More efficient way to heat substances • Can put glassware directly on burner if burner is turned off and cool.

  22. Microscope • Enlarges items for study. • Has 2 or 3 objectives

  23. Microscope Slide • Supports item being examined on the microscope. • Rectangular shape

  24. Cover Slip • Covers item on the slide • Made of glass or plastic • Square shape
