  3. MOTIVATION • Home automation is a growing trend • Make common home appliances and media accessible to disabled • Always had an interest in home automation • Safer home • Sometimes I just didn’t want to get off the couch to turn off the lights or find the remote

  15. PROBLEM STATEMENT • I wanted to implement voice activation control of lights, television, and common home appliances in a cheap and effective way.

PROPOSED SOLUTION • Steps taken to solve the problem • Searched web for best alternative for cheap home automation and voice activation • Researched X10 Technology • Ordered hardware and software from X10 • Ordered USB-UIRT • Downloaded Bill’s Voice Commander (free) • Testing & troubleshooting • Verifying results

  19. CONCLUSIONS • Successfully implemented voice activation of TV, lights, and appliances • Able control lights, appliances, and cameras over the internet • Successfully implemented macros and timers using ActiveHomePro • Limitless possibilities in home automation.
