  2. Home Automation Console • Problem • Home Automation is currently a complex process that requires separate types of technologies to automate different aspects of a household • Solution • Integrate popular home automation technologies into one easy to use and install console

Home Automation Console • Requirements/Specifications • Integration of the Internet, X-10, and infrared technologies • Easy to access and use so that people with varying abilities can automate their homes • Must be reasonable priced so it can compete in the market, under $200.00 • Must not interfere with non-automated devices in the home • Must comply with all applicable FCC and UL regulations

Home Automation Console • X10 Technology • X10 is Powerline Carrier Protocol (PLC): allows compatible devices to communicate using existing 110V wiring at home • X10 transmitters send coded low voltage signal that is superimposed over the 120V AC • X10 signals involve 1ms long 120k Hz bursts representing digital information • Effective data rate: 60 bits/sec
