Project Overview Career Connections: Investigation and Preparation for the World of Work will give students the opportunity to explore various careers, the realities of the workplace, an understanding of self, and preparation for a productive future. Students will complete self evaluation as a first step in the career exploration process. They will go on to explore careers through research based activities, and will created a career plan to help them prepare for the future. Using the SIRS databases students will locate informational texts, employ strategies to use text features, and will understand the difference between Internet searches and results and subscription databases. Students will apply before, during and after reading strategies as they interact with the text.

Objectives • Students will discover their interests, values, skills, and aptitudes. • Students will see a link between who they are and possible careers. • Students will learn to research careers. • Students will find out what is involved in applying for a job. • Students will discover ways to present themselves to an employer.

  6. Continued • Transfer of collected information to outline. • Students create a resume using template in Microsoft Word. • Students create cover letter to accompany resume.
