TRAINING OBJECTIVES • Review and discuss the key concepts presented in the WALKING THE TALK TOGETHER handbook. • Examine and discuss the relevance of • the handbook contents to our jobs and our organization. • Work together to identify ways we can apply the principles of the handbook back on the job.

  3. GENERAL DISCUSSION QUESTION If you had to condense this handbook down to one overall message, what would that message be? “I always wondered why somebody didn’t do something about that, then I realized I was somebody.”

  4. GENERAL DISCUSSION QUESTION What does the phrase “Walk the Talk” mean to you? Does it apply to your organization? If so, how? “Words to live by are just words, unless we live by them.”

  5. GENERAL DISCUSSION QUESTION What information from the book stuck with you? What got your attention? “Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice.” ~Heber J. Grant

GENERAL DISCUSSION QUESTION What are some things we all can do (“together”) to get the most benefit from what this handbook has to offer? “We're all responsible for bringing organizational values to life.” “Values have everything to do with our jobs. “ Nobody walks the talk all the time. Everyone can improve. “Only you can make the difference…. “

  7. Exercise: “OPPOSITES DETRACT” In Table Groups … 1. Review your assigned “Joining the Journey” behavior(s) and describe what opposite behaviors would look like. Then, 2. List the various impacts those opposite behaviors would have on coworkers and customers. Finally, 3. Select someone to present your opposite behaviors and their impacts to the entire group. 9 minutes.

  8. “OPPOSITES DETRACT” DISCUSSION QUESTION To what degree do values-based behaviors impact/affect team members? Our organization? Our customers?

  9. Exercise: “ONE PICTURE’S WORTH …” In Table Groups … 1. Work together to draw an avatar of a coworker (manager or employee) who “Walks the Talk”– with physical attributes, clothes, tools, equipment, etc. that depict the characteristics and behaviors of the person. HAVE FUN! Then, 2. Select someone to present and explain your flip- chart drawing to the entire group. 5 minutes.

  12. KEY LEARNING POINTS 1. To be successful, we ALL must “Walk the Talk”. 2. “Walking the Talk” is about BEHAVING our beliefs and values. 3. “Walking the Talk” isn’t easy. It requires COMMITMENT and SELF-DISCIPLINE. 4. When it comes to “living” our values, EVERYTHING I do COUNTS! 5. “Walking the Talk” starts with ME. I can MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
