  3. Interesting Statistics! • Approximately 3.1 million nurses in the U.S. • 10% of all nurses are male... (Kalisch & Liu, 2009) • Which means about 300,000 total male nurses are in the United States (Buerhaus, Auerbach, & Staiger, 2009) • Average Age - 44 years old (Kalisch & Liu, 2009)

  5. Interview Q and A • “Nobody knows for sure • why females want to become nurses.” • Yes. Heavy lifting. But other than that we basically do the same thing. • Why are there so many more female nurses than male? • Are there any specific jobs that men perform that women cannot?

More Questions! • Shockingly, yes there is a difference in salary (men are paid about $9,000 more yearly • The ratio for males to females in the nurse anesthesia is more like 1 male for every 4 or 5 females • Is there a difference in the salary of male and female nurses? • What is the ratio of males to females for your area of study?

  8. Nursing Education • Takes 3 years to graduate with BSN • Another 3 years for CRNA • = lot of school! • Average salary for CRNA about $165,000
