Edinburgh lies in the eastern areaof the Central Lowlands of Scotland. The city sprawls over a landscape beingthe product of early volcanic activity and later periods of intensive glaciation. The historic centre of Edinburgh is divided into two broad green swath-a long stripoflandof Princes Street Gardens. To the south the view is dominated by Edinburgh Castle, perched on theedgeofthe extinct volcanic crag, and the long sweep of the Old Town. To the north Princes Street liesand the New Town. The gardens were begun in 1816 on a land which had once been the Nor Loch.

  7. Located in the heart of Edinburgh at the west end of Princes Street, St John's is home to one of the leading Anglican church choirs in Edinburgh. The church has a strong choral music tradition.
