  3. Tenzin’s House Tenzin’s family was nomadic like lots of other Mongolians in the Mongolian empire. Nomadic means when you never live in one place and you keep moving again and again to find food. This meant that his family had a movable house so that they could travel around and live in different places in different times. Their house was called a ger and it was 5 meters long across. Tenzin’s ger was like a circular tent and was made from sheep wool. His family smeared animal fat over the ger to make it water proof and they had to keep moving their tent, so they took it apart and put it on wooden carts that were wheeled by oxen to move it. A Mongol ger from today that is very similar to the ones from the Mongol Empire

  4. Tenzin’s Uncle, Ganbold Tenzin’s uncle was named Ganboldand he was a Mongol soldier in the military. He rode to fight others on a horse and he carried lots of weapons to give enemies booboos. One of the weapons he carried was a bow that could fire wooden arrows 274 meters-that’s very far! His arrows were made from wood with a sharp iron tip on the front-OUCH! He also carried a curved iron sword called a scimitar that could also be used to fight enemies. Ganboldwore body armor made from hard leather and with iron scales on top to protect him from booboos. Sometimes Ganboldwould have to use a catapult to shoot big rocks over walls into enemy cities-whoa! Mongolian Soldiers on horses with bows and arrows, just like Ganbold

  5. Getting Fixed by the Doctor When soldiers like Ganboldget hurt while fighting there were many things that the Mongols did to help heal the hurt person. The mongol empire had medicine from all over the world from places like China, Korea, and Arabia because they took so many other places over-woah! If Ganboldgot one of his bones fractured or dislocated in battle, than he could go to a Bariachi who were special Mongol doctors that healed fractured or dislocated bones by something called bonesetting. This is when the Bariachi twisted and moved his patient’s bones in a special way to help heal the bones over time. The Mongols got lots of medical practices to help heal booboos from the Chinese people like folk medicines and potions, and acupuncture, which is using needles to help heal people. The Mongols got a lot of medical practices from places that they took over, like China, India, Korea and parts Arabia

Tenzin Family • Tenzin’s friends family is a big deal in the village my dad is something they call a “khan” he is in charge of all the tribes and clans we were the nobility every one respected us. My friends fathers were different they were treated differently then we were they took care of the animals they were herders. I had a lot of friends some artists and even nobility like me. One day my friend’s father was promoted to general of the army and he got famous he wasn’t famous before when he was a low class soldier. Its strange how what you do affects how people see you.

  8. The boy Tinuk Tenzin’s best friend is named is Tinuk. He is from a place called China. His family was taken from him when he was young . He asked a soldier what happened to his family, the soldier chuckled and he said they were put into good use. Tensin felt sorry for him because he was treated badly. For example, he has to work a lot and he doesn’t get to have any fun! He told Tenzin that he was moving away to a place called Persia and he didn’t want to, but he was forced to. I asked my father why does he have to go he told me that I will understand when I'm older. I will miss him so much.

  11. Uncle Tevjin Tenzin has an Uncle named Tevjin. He lived with Tenzin’s family and worked very hard in the military until he moved away. Tenzin’s father told him that Uncle Tevjin was promoted and is now fighting battles in far away lands. Uncle Tevjin was always known for being a very hard worker and he must of finally been notices by the Khan. He always rode his horse around the village helping others and doing all the work, he was truly the model Mongolian man. The family will miss him dearly.

  12. Cousin Kenrun Tenzin’s Cousin Kenrun was always a troubled boy. The other week Tenzin saw him take a piece of bread from a soldier without asking. Tenzin doesn’t see him around anymore. The Khan is known for being harsh on the criminals. Tenzin hopes that he isn’t too harsh on Kenrun, he always had a good heart and was always fun to play with. It makes Tenzin scared to commit a crime like Kenrun did.

  15. Tenzin’s Uncle, General Batbayar Batbayarwas a high ranked general who worked with Genghis Khan. Batbayar cared a lot about the Mongols and since their economy was bad, he wanted to help make the economy better. Batbayar and many other generals decided that the best way to fix their economy was by expanding. So Genghis Khan commanded troops and they took over lots of places. Some places they took over included Eastern Europe and most of Asia. That was a lot of areas! The Mongols were able to take over because they were very violent and they Areas that the Mongols expanded to. They had control over those areas for a long time. liked to hurt people. The Mongols believed hurting people was a good thing. Expanding helped the Mongols because they were able to collect money once in a while from different empires, called tax, and they also traded a lot. Batbayar and other generals were taught to be very mean and hurt people, but other people told Genghis Khan to be nicer because that would make the Mongols make allies.

  16. Tenzin’s Cousin, Ganbaatar Ganbaatarwas an advisor of Genghis Khan and his job was to help Genghis Khan make right choices. Ganbaatarcared a lot about the Mongols and since their economy was bad, he wanted to help, like how General Batbayardid. Genghis Khan captured lots of places which provided the Mongolians with riches. After expanding, Ganbaatarhelped Genghis Khan achieve his biggest achievement which was his domination over the Silk Road. The Silk Road was made by the Chinese but the Mongols took control over the Silk Road. The Silk Road allowed many empires to meet and trade. They traded diamonds, gems and more. Ganbaataralso wanted more people to trade in the Silk Road but The Silk Road was a large trade route that helped people meet and trade from different places. The Mongols controlled the Silk Road which helped better their economy because everyone was afraid of the Mongols, no one would trade with them. So Ganbaatar told Genghis Khan to reward the merchants by giving them high value goods when trading. Doing this made Genghis Khan a great leader for uniting people and fixing the Mongols economy. Ganbaatar made the Mongols powerful but he made sure other people were treated fairly too.

  17. Genghis Khan and The Monetary System After fixing the economy of the Mongols, Genghis Khan wanted to do even more to help the Mongolian empire so Ganbaatar told him that he needed to do something that would give Mongols more power. Genghis Khan decided introduce a new monetary system and introduced coinage because this would take away more power from others and give more power to the Mongols. Genghis Khan decided to use silver Chinese Ingots, paper money, silk and metals for money. Since the Mongols controlled lots of This is a Mongolian coin called “Great Khans” coin and it was used to buy things. places, most of these empires needed to change their rules to keep the Mongols happy or the Mongols would harm them. The Mongols wanted more power, so they made rules where only people that used their coinage could trade with them. Later, after Genghis Khan died, his successors continued his coinage and monetary system.
