  2. Mission Statement The Mountaineer High School Counseling program is invested in the academic growth, career development and individual advancement of all students. Through a cohesive curriculum, students are provided the tools to acquire knowledge and skills that will develop their potential as active life-long learners.

Philosophy Statement The Mountaineer High School professional school counselors work collaboratively on the students behalf by incorporating educators, family members, and community services to ensure all students have the ability to reach their individual potential. • The MHS Counseling Program will provide: • A supportive network for each student • A program based on the standards of the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Model and Ethical Guidelines • Accessibility to a CACREP certified school counselor to all students • Advocacy on behalf of student rights • An individualized service that focuses on the holistic welfare of each student • Referral services to necessary community agencies • Availability to career and educational development
