  4. WHY NEWTOWN? • High area of economic deprivation • High Maori, Pacific Island, Asian, Immigrant and Refugee populations • High numbers of Tangata Whaiora • High numbers of Pokie venues

  5. OPERATION RESTORE NEWTOWN AIM To develop a programme with other community organisations in Newtown which • promotes strong protective factors and • builds resilient individuals, whanau and community

COMMUNITY Partners Oasis Centre/Salvation Army; City Mission; Inner City Project Organisations offering support Operation Green Thumb; WelCoSS; Zoo; SPCA; Theosophical Society; Community Accounts Mentoring Service Trust etc Government agencies involved Wellington City Council; Library; Police; WINZ; MSD; Sports Wellington; PATHS; etc

Programme Resiliency building activities, Healthy alternatives to Gambling, Life skills and training • Core - community gardens; basic car maintenance; furniture restoration; cooking; computer training • Voluntary community work – Zoo; SPCA; Walkways/Cycle track; Home of Compassion; • Intrapersonal work – Emotions; anger management; parenting skills; metacognition exercises; Theosophical society;
