  2. Mission Statement • The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, • Meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.

  3. History and Background • The Salvation Army began its work in Canada in 1882. • Quickly began giving hope to those in need in this country and around the world. • Official Salvation Army operations began in July of that year when Major Thomas Moore arrived from the U.S. headquarters to take charge. • There were 11 ‘corps’ or church congregations in Ontario.

  4. Goals • The Salvation Army is passionately committed to eradicating poverty and caring for people who are struggling • The Salvation Army is working to address the dehumanizing scourge of poverty and injustice.

Statistics • About one-third of seniors, aged 65 or older, aren’t getting proper nutrition. • A2008/2009 survey suggests various factors are significantly associated with seniors and their nutritional risk. • Each month, close to 900,000 Canadians are assisted by food banks • 93,000 of them are accessing them for the first time.

Different ways of Participating • There are many programs for those who want to participate and help out . • Some of the programs include: Missing Persons, Youth Camps, Disaster Relief , Combating Human Trafficking and other great programs. • You could also become a spokesperson for the Salvation Army by talking to your friends and family and maybe encouraging them to get involved.

Different Ways of Donating • Salvation Army has a bunch of drop boxes around the city where you can go donate your belongings • Car donations , clothing furniture and household goods ,planned giving , wills , gift annuities are an example of what can be donated • You can also donate your time by being a volunteer at a thrift store or food bank and so on.

  9. Events • Salvation Army hosts events during United Nations Commission • Every year salvation army does christmas campaigns to raise money for those in poverty. • Christmas kettle campaign is when they put 2,000 kettles around the province.
