  1. Population study for γ-ray pulsars: II Millisecond pulsars J. Takata, Y. wang & K.S. Cheng arXiv: 1102.2746

  2. Outline • Introduction • Monte-Carlo simulation • Results and disussion • Conclusion

  3. Introduction • MSP: • P~ 2-100 ms • Bs~ 108-109 • Fermi LAT results: (2 yrs) • 60 γ-ray pulsars, 9 MSPs • In 20 UID radio MSPs were discovered

  4. High energy radiation mechanism • Polar gap model • Slot gap model • Outer gap model Statistically more consistent with observation • Pair-Starved polar gap Pulsar profiles Romani & Watters 2010 Watters & Romani 2011

  5. Compare of simulation and observation can test the high energy emission model • Story et al. 2007 predicted Fermi will detect 12 radio-loud 33-40 radio-quite γ-ray pulsars • Takata et al. 2011 predicted Fermi will detect 100 canonical γ-ray pulsars • Understanding the UIDγ-raysources

  6. Monte-Carlo simulation • Galactic population

  7. Pulsar characteristics • P • Pdot • Bs • Constant birth rate • Obtain the current position • Assign the pulsar parameters following the observed distributions(Pdot -Bs) • Current period (Shklovskii effect considered)

  8. Radio emissions • Beaming effect

  9. γ-ray emission • photon-photon pair-creation • magnetic pair creation

  10. Maximum gap thickness • photon-photon pair-creation • magnetic pair creation

  11. Results and discussions

  12. C>11.34 less than 1% chance that power law is a good fit V>23.21 less than a 1% chance of being a steady source

  13. 9+7 9+3 9+20

  14. Conclusion • Using the sensitivity of the Fermi six-month longobservations, 9-13 radio-selected γ-ray MSPs are detected within the simulation, which isconsistent with the present 9 Fermi MSPs • Radio-selected γ-ray pulsars are consistent with the present Fermi results • 50% of the γ-ray MSPs will be detected in the range P~3-8ms Pdot~6*10-21-10-19 • γ-ray MSPs are plausible candidates of UID located in high Galactic latitudes

  15. Thanks!
