  5. Requirement to register The Regulation of Care (Fitness of Employees in Relation to Care Services) (Scotland) Regulations 2009 – comes into force 30 April 2009 • All residential child care workers – 30 September 2009 • Care home services for adults • Managers – 30 November 2009 • Supervisors – 30 March 2012 • Practitioners – 29 March 2013 • Support workers – 30 September 2015 • Adult day care services • Managers – 30 November 2009

  6. Requirement to register (cont) • Day care of children services • Managers – 30 November 2010 • Practitioners – 30 September 2011 • Support workers – 30 June 2014 The SSSC can register workers without a qualification. A condition is attached to their registration that they gain the qualification within a specified period of time – normally three years.

  7. Scottish Statutory Instrument It became clear after the closure of the consultation that there was some confusion about the Government’s policy intention in relation to registration of new recruits to posts subject to registration. As a result Government has decided at this stage to only apply the requirement that all new recruits should achieve registration within six months of taking up employment to residential child care workers and managers of adult residential care and adult day care services. The Government will revert to the sector about registration of new recruits to other posts subject to required registration.

  8. Developing the workforce “I feel due to my increased knowledge and experience I’m able to provide an even higher standard of care to service users.” Susanne, senior care assistant “I have always cared for people and this gives you the recognition for the work you have done.” Millie after gaining her SVQ3 I wanted to do it for the children because they are the most precious commodity you could have. Kate (58) on gaining her SVQ3
