  1. OCTOBER 2012 Club Newsletter BRAUNTON BMX CLUB to Braunton BMX Club’s newsletter. We distribute one of these every couple of months, informing you of things that are happening with the Club, Community and BMX in general. Welcome Member of the Week Results & Future Fixtures will be starting again soon. Also, could all Members ensure that they bring their Training Records with them to each training session?  The Coaches are going to concentrate on these core basic and intermediate skills in the training sessions to come, and we would like to get as many of you 'signed off' in the skills that you are competent in, as possible.There will be special award(s) to the Member(s) who become most competent between now and the End of Season Presentation on 27th October 2012. South West Regional - Cornwall – 5th August 2012 Results for the Novice finals were - Female 6s Hannah Foster 8th, Male 10 - 12s Dan Capner 3rd (B Final), Ben Northcott 2nd (A Final) and Male 13s Hayden Murray 6th.  Expert riders earned amazing places too.  Male 10s Harrison Pascoe - White 6th, Male 12s Sam Major dnf after a fall (but some great moto results), Male 14s Ben Searles 3rd, Male 25 - 29s Sam Hommell 2nd, Male 35 - 39s Cruisers Mark Major 2nd (B Final), Male 40 - 44s Cruisers Alex Foster some good motos and Chris Pascoe - White 3rd in the Masters final. South West Regional – Bideford – 19th August 2012 Results for the Novice finals were - Male 5s Toby White 4th (B), Male 6s Ed Harrison on his birthday 4th (A), Stan White 3rd (B), Female 6s Hannah Foster 6th (A), Male 7s Rio Capron 3rd (A), Male 8s Charlie Knox 2nd (A), Female 8s Aggi Harrison 6th (A), Male 9s Dan Redstone 8th (A), Luke Simmons 1st (A), Male 13s Hayden Murray 2nd (B), Male 14s Albie Simmons 6th (A) and Male 15s Charlie Fewings 1st (B).  Expert riders earned excellent places too.  Male 12sSam Major 4th (A), Male 14s Ben Searles 5th (GP), Male 25 - 29s Sam Hommell 1st (A), Female Cruisers Vanessa Harrison 7th (GP), Male 40 - 44s Cruisers Alex Foster 6th (GP), Mark Major 7th (GP), and Chris Pascoe - White 5th in the Masters (GP) final. South West Regional – Bath – 2nd September 2012 Novice Finals Results were as follows - Male 6s Ed Harrison 4th (A), Female 6s Hannah Foster 7th (A), Male 7s Rio Capron 3rd (B), Female 8s Aggi Harrison 1st (C), Male 9s Dan Redstone 6th (A), Male 11s Billie Grant 8th (B), Ryan Willis 4th (B), Male 13s Hayden Murray 4th (A) and Male 15s Charlie Fewings 8th (A).  Expert riders - Male 10s Harrison Pascoe - White 4th (A), Male 12s Sam Major 4th (A), Male 25 - 29s Sam Hommell 2nd (A), Female Cruisers Vanessa Harrison 7th (A), Male 40 - 44s Cruisers Alex Foster 8th (A), Mark Major 2nd (B), and Chris Pascoe - White 4th in the Masters (A) final. Good News Items ... 1) The Club earned their Clubmark accreditation – a great achievement for such a young Club. (More details on the website). 2) Mark (Coach) is now fullyqualified as a Level 2 BC Coach, as his paperwork has all been approved. Well done Mark. 3) The Club came 3rd in BCs National Membership Increase competition. (More details on the website.) Go - Ride Games report The morning was a huge success and despite the awful weather all riders really enjoyed themselves.  There were 30 riders, of whom 10 were non - members.  These have now all joined the Club which is great. Winners were as follows: Group A (6 and 7 years) – Bronze - Adam McCarthy, Silver - Connor Goswell, Gold - Rio Capron. Group B (8 and 9 years) – Bronze - William Potter, Silver - Charlie Knox, Gold - Ben Major. Group C (10 and 11 years) – Bronze - Ryan Willis, Silver - Luke Simmons, Gold - Billy Grant. Time Trial - Sam Major (12 years, who rides BMX nationally) received a special mention from Jodi as he gave two great times.   2. Sale or exchange IMPORTANT – INSURANCE - Please be aware that Club Members are not insured under the Club’s Public Liability Insurance. Our insurance only covers visitors and Committee. In order to be properly insured, Members need to take out a British Cycling Membership. Ask at Training for details, as the BC memberships are free for Club Members for the first year. However, you do need to apply for the membership for the insurance to be valid. Vibe BMX, would suit a rider of approx. 8 years old.  Has a small sprocket for easy pedalling - £75 ono Specialised M Bike, would suit a rider of approx. 6 years old  - £40 ono. Contact: (01271) 816649 or see James SIm at training British Cycling Info During London 2012, Team GB’s cyclists won 11 medals, including seven gold medals, and broke records in five disciplines. The team also entered the record books several times –  including Sir Chris Hoy who now holds the most Olympic track cycling gold medals. Laura Trott became the youngest Olympic gold medallist in women's cycling. Bradley Wiggins also became the first cyclist to win the Tour de France and an Olympic gold medal in the same year. Great Britain Rider Abbie Taylor took a bronze medal in the Elite women’s final at the UCI BMX Supercross in Abbotsford Canada, in September, amongst some stiff competition. This competiyion is coming to Manchester on 19 and 20 April 2013. Manchester's National BMX facility will host the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup.  Clothing Competition Olympics Quiz 50p to enter Following the hugely successful London 2012 Olympics, here’s a few questions for you to answer. You must get them all correct to be entered into the draw. 1) Where did Shanaze Reade finish in the seedings? 2) Which gate did Liam Phillips choose for his quarter-finals? 3) Who won the Men’s BMX Final? 4) Who won the Women’s BMX Final? Get your entry (with your name on) and 50p entry fee back to the Club by 30th November. All correct entries will be placed ‘in a hat’ and the winner picked at random. The winner will receive a great prize. August’s winner was Luke Simmons – well done!!! The answer was BMX Racing. Race Shirts are £33.00 (£38 with name printed on reverse). We will be placing a new order soon. Hoodies are £20 / £15, T-shirts £10 / £7.50, Vest Tops (adults only) £7.50 and basic t shirts £3.50. (prices are adult / child). Ask at Training for sizes.
