  2. First, talk about Carnivals then choose a theme.

  3. Design stage After looking at some different carnival instruments, draw four different designs onto the basic templates in your booklets. Choose contrasting styles and designs for each instrument. Think about the different sounds each one can make, as well as adding colour and pattern.

  4. Essential Tools and Materials required assorted trays toilet rolls paints and brushes modroc dried beans / rice ribbon / string / twist ties masking tape coloured tissue paper / newspaper / shiny paper / cellophane empty milk cartons / drinks bottles scissors

  5. Your instrument could take on a variety of forms. Here are some ideas... Shaker Apply strips of modroc over the entire structure. Tape a cardboard tube over the end. Put beads into a carton and seal it.

  6. Foil trays on top of open plastic containers make a good sound when hit with drumsticks! Tambourine Xylophone Try discs or foil on sticks of dowel to create a rattling tambourine. Drum Plastic tubes or wooden sticks can be combined with egg cartons to make a nifty little xylophone.

  7. Decoration Don’t forget to add colours and patterns to your instrument! Try adding other decorative features, such as string, ribbon, glitter, fabric and feathers.
