  1. Love Overflow: A Recollection By: Jessika Jones “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” - Maya Angelou

  2. Vulnerability…

  3. …Is What It Takes: To be able to share with others the instance in which you’re most vulnerable and the aspect of yourself in which you’re most insecure is bravery in it’s most raw form, or at least that is what it felt like. I shared my story with my family, friends, and peers in various ways through various venues. Some through song, others through written work, some heard it through conversation and others heard it through my tears, but no matter which way it was all painful at first and healing after.

  4. The Before: I began my journey raised in a very strictly religious abiding family. I missed out on a lot activities that the rest of mainstream society (and every friend a young girl in the 90’s could/would have) was partaking in. Because of the foundation that followed that upbringing those activities seemingly went unmissed. More harming than that because of my upbringing I hid who I was and the source for which my love burned; a woman. I kept it hidden or so I though; until the day it felt like a bright, harsh, and piercing light was shined into the iris of my eyes.

  5. The During: • The during was, well as you could imagine, difficult and that journey was accompanied with thoughts and feelings that paralleled the following: • Pain • Loneliness • Isolation • Lack of support • Uncertainty • Loss of identity

  6. Courage… Because sharing meant exposure, and exposure meant being “cast out”, I never shared…until now. That period of time felt like I’m certain this snail did; dark and alone.

  7. Transitioning: What it felt like having shared and exposed my true identity and sexual orientation with the ones I love and those that claim to love me is sorely dulled by the expression of words…the smile that follows should suffice in the best way in which I can express.

  8. The After: “Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” Maya Angelou

  9. Blossoming… “While I know myself as a creation of God, I am also obligated to realize and remember that everyone else and everything else are also God's creation.” Maya Angelou

  10. The Lesson in Transitioning: What sharing my position shift with those around me did for me was priceless, it opened a door. It opened a pathway to move forward in life and take advantage of the circumstances and enlightening recognition life deals us and most importantly do with it the most we can; share.

  11. “IF we lose love and self respect for each other, this is how we finally die.” Maya Angelou
