  1. Quttinirpaaq National Park. By: Jonny Malley.

  2. What is Quittinirpaaq National Park? Located in Nunavut, this wintery, cold park is one of Nunavut’s many features and wonders. This park use to be called Ellesmere Island National Park. However, they changed it’s name to it’s native name, Quittinirpaaq National Park( Pronounced “Khoot-tee-neelk-paahk”) Quittinirpaaq National Park is the second largest national park in Canada, the largest being the Wood Buffalo National Park. This park is truly and certainly an amazing sight, and anyone who goes there would be happy when they leave.

  3. Are there animals? The animals that they have in this park are not the same as the one’s we have in Canada, because of their weather. However the animals they do have is: Seabirds. Arctic Hares Bison Caribou Many types of Seal Walrus Narwhal and Many Whales.

  4. What about plants? There isn’t much vegetation in Quittinirpaaq National Park, due to the large amount of snow and ice, and low precipitation they have. However, the most common types of vegetation that you will see in Quittinirpaaq National Park is: Saxifrage(The Purple Picture) Arctic Poppy.(The Yellow Picture)

  5. How can i have fun? In order to enjoy most of the activities in Quittinirpaaq National Park, one must enjoy the cold weather! Some activities one can do here is: Hiking Dog Sledding Back Company Camping Ski Touring And of course, snowball fights and sledding!

  6. How is the weather? As you can already tell, the weather is always cold! Sometimes described as “The desert of snow”, this park is always covered in snow. The only month that it is relatively warm, is July, where the temperature is between 0 and 7 degrees. Also, it is almost always sunny. So hopefully your sleeping schedule wont mess up! As for rain, the amount of rain they get annually is 66mm of rain. Wow, that's not a lot!

  7. Anything Special? In Quittinirpaaq National Park, you can see these large glaciers from over 15km away. They are huge, and they are truly an amazing sight to witness. Other than that, this park is the snowiest national park in Canada. And as already stated, it is the second largest national park in all of Canada. Also, since this park has been in Canada for so long, it has developed unique, and interesting rock, and ground patters wherever you walk! Now that, is interesting!

  8. Wow! Sounds awesome! But, how do i get there? Well, it isn’t easy. From Resolute Bay, you must charter an aircraft to get to the park. It is a four-hour flight by Twin Otter to the park from Resolute Bay. A Twin Otter aircraft charter to Tanquary Fiord or Lake Hazen is approximately $15,000 one-way. However, you will need two flights, one to go to the park and another to come out for a total cost of around $30,000! Hope you enjoy flying!
