  2. Baker’s Bengals Website • Go onto the PBVUSD website • Select Castle Elementary School • Select Teachers • Click on Teacher’s name • Website will include Calendar Events, Great Links, Book Report Information, Back-to-School info, sixth grade blog, and much more!

  3. Schedule 8:20-8:45 Morning Work 8:45-10:25 Language/ Reading 10:25- 10:50 Recess 10:50- 12:30 Math 12:30- 1:30 Lunch 1:30-2:00 Written Expression 2:00-2:50 Science or Social Studies 2:50- 3:05 Go over homework and pack up 3:05 Dismissal * Every Wednesday is a 1-hour Early Dismissal

  4. Schedule • Monday- Computer Lab and Music • Tuesday- Library- Every other week and Instrumental individual schedule • Wednesday- Chorus • Thursday- Instrumental individual schedule • Friday- PE- make sure students are wearing appropriate clothing. (Tennis shoes, shorts, etc.)

  5. Classroom Expectations • Follow Directions quickly • Raise hand for permission to speak and get out of seat. • Make smart choices • Come to school on time and prepared. • Keep hands, feet, and objects to your self. • Show Respect to everyone

  6. Classroom Expectations • If a rule is broken: • 1st time- Think About Moment • 2nd time- Teacher’s Choice • 3rd time- Parent contact/ Detention • 4th time- referral or suspension

  7. Classroom Expectations • Rewards for Good Choices • Move up pin on behavior chart and get rewarded tickets and recognition. • Tickets and Chance drawings • Free Homework, bathroom, or water pass • Prize box • Class party • Positive reinforcement

  8. Curriculum • California State Standards- Standards have been established in our district for each grade level in language and math. A standard is something a child must master by the end of the year. Standard are important because our STAR test at the end of the year will rely heavily on the standards. • 6th grade STAR test results will be taken into consideration on how they will be leveled for junior high courses.

  9. Grading • New Report Card • Parent conferences will be held at the end of the first quarter to go over student’s report card. • Progress reports will go out every three weeks. It will include conduct and current grades. • ParentVue web or mobile portal. Need to obtain an activation key from Castle’s office

  10. Grading 100%-90% = A 89%-80% = B 79%- 70% = C 69%- 60% = D 59%- below = F Failed Test- All students will be given an opportunity once a week to retake a test. RTI- for students who are still struggling on the concept.

  11. Accelerated Reader Quarterly Point Goals • Each quarter students will be assigned a point goal based on their STAR reading results. • AR goal percentage will be averaged into their Reading grade. • AR Reward Party!

  12. Homework • Students will be assigned daily homework. 1. Language assignment (spelling, vocabulary, grammar) 2. Math assignment 3. Reading Log Students will write assignments in Homework notebook. Homework folder will go home every day and MUST be returned the next day. - Missing homework assignments- students will sit out recess and complete assignment. Two or more days of missing homework will result in a phone call home.

  13. Learning Journals • Math notes- Each unit will be given a set of math notes. Students must keep notes and use for studying purposes • Reading and English journal- Students will be taking notes and referring back to it for studying purposes. • Learning Goals-Students will be taking pre-test, setting goals, and reflecting on learning.

  14. Absent, Late, Missed Class Work • Absent Work - One day is given per day of absence • Late Work Assignments are due by the end of the day otherwise it is taken home for additional homework. • Missed Class Work Strings, Band, Chorus, and GATE students are responsible to complete work missed during these times. - I am usually available at recess to give additional help to students and give time for student’s to make-up work.

  15. Parent Tips • Check Backpacks Daily - Check HW notebook is filled out and all HW is brought home. - Check that HW is completed and returned to school. -Provide a quiet place for HW • Make sure your student is in school for the entire day. • Communicate if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. sbaker@pbvusd.net
