Everything You Need To Know About SARMs

SARMs are similar to steroids, but they are not the same. They both work by binding to your androgen receptors, triggering changes in your DNA that increase your muscles' ability to grow. But steroids are a blunt tool - they can affect other parts of the body as well, causing side effects like prostate problems, hair loss, and acne. However, SARMs are said to be "tissue selective" - they target muscles without triggering this same chain of reactions. They are also taken in pill form, rather than injected. Does it drop? None have been approved for human consumption.

  1. Everything You Need To Know About SARMs

  3. Over the past five years, online searches for MRSA (or "selective androgen receptor modulators," including andarine and ostarine) have increased steadily. Although there is no way of knowing how many of us buy them, analysis of the famous London "fatberg", the mass of oil and organic matter found in the capital's sewers, found that SARMs are present in greater quantities than the MDMA and cocaine.

  4. Where Did SARMs Come From? • SARMs were created by accident. In the early 1990s, a scientist named Professor James T Dalton was working on pioneering treatments for prostate cancer when he identified the andarine molecule, the first MRSA. It was of little use in treating prostate cancer, but it had a remarkable effect on muscle growth. "It was the opposite of what we were looking for at the time," he told Men's Health. “But we focus almost all of our attention on this. We knew we really had something unique. "

  5. Several years later, Dalton went on to create a more refined version, known as an ostarine. In clinical trials, older men who received a 12-week course of the drug increased lean muscle mass and reduced fat, while also seeing a more than 15% improvement in stair climbing power. But a subsequent trial in cancer patients failed to produce the desired results, and development of the drug was halted. Since then, Dalton has tried to curb black market companies because of his discoveries. "We contacted cease and desist letters to a couple of them, we contacted the FDA to try to close them," he says. "But it is rampant and there is very little that can be done to control it."

  6. What Are the Side Effects of SARMs? • The evidence here is largely anecdotal. On online forums, users report strength gains, but also frequently seek advice on topics such as high blood pressure, skin rashes, and impotence. Vision problems seem to be particularly common; Andarine is reported to give users' vision a green or yellow tint.

  7. Most of the information available online comes from sellers and YouTube users, so there is a tendency for advice to be positive. Dr Ian Boardley, Senior Lecturer in Sports Psychology at the University of Birmingham, says: “If someone is using them himself, they are interested in believing that they can use them safely. I think that's happening with SARMs. "Even if users do a significant amount of research on the substances they choose or know how do you take SARMs, the conclusions they draw are not necessarily accurate." One of the things we often see is distortion and use selective of the information to support their behavior, "he explains." It's a pretty dangerous process. " • Here, three people talk to Men's Health about their experiences using SARMs. They wanted to remain anonymous.

  8. Case study n. # 1: the personal trainer • Allan, a 37-year-old personal trainer, initially dismissed SARMs as a fitness fad. "There are a lot of supplements out there that say they do this and that, but most of the time they do absolutely nothing," he says. That changed when he started watching YouTubers that he respected recommending, "I was sitting there thinking, okay, now I'm interested." Allan had never taken steroids but, having reached his late thirties, he was intrigued to discover a supplement that could help maintain his athletic performance. He placed an order for ostarine, which he had seen described as one of the mildest SARMs, and started with what he believed to be a small dose. • The problems started almost immediately. Allan took his first dose at lunchtime, then left the house to run some errands before going to the gym. Within hours, he was overcome by a strange sensation: anxious, shaky, a general sense of unease. Allan hoped the feelings would fade; instead, they got worse. “After a few days this anxiety was constant,” he says. "After just over two weeks, that's when I was like, this isn't for me." Before giving up on SARMs, he went online to seek advice about his symptoms from him. He recalls being told: "Man up, you'll get through it, you'll be growing in no time." Instead, Allan decided to follow his instincts from him: "I'd rather have my mental health intact than have slightly bigger muscles."

  9. Case study n. #2: the sports coach • Andy, a tennis coach in his thirties, first noticed that SARMs USA were being advertised online about two years ago. He recalls seeing them marketed as an "alternative to steroids that would give him similar effects." Andy had been going to the gym for two decades, exercising three or four times a week. "I'm always looking for supplements, but I never went the steroid route," he says. "For me, the health risks were always too high." • Andy began to investigate further. He joined Facebook groups, watched YouTube videos, and read scientific articles. “I wanted to make sure that if I was going to do it, it was as safe as possible,” he says. About a year after he first heard about SARMs, he ordered ostarine online. Soon enough, he began to notice changes in the mirror. He looked leaner and more muscular. The only downside were some headaches. Andy went on to try another SARM called LGD-4033, which increased his bench curl by nearly a quarter. But after two cycles of MRSA, he decided it was enough; he still had lingering concerns about the long-term health implications. "Once there is more research, it might take longer," he says.

  10. Case study n. 3 - The Gym Attendant • Aaron, a 33-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent, used to use steroids but stopped after suffering severe acne. Two years ago, he saw a YouTube video recommending SARMs, "basically saying they have very low risks and all the benefits of anabolic steroids." His first ostarine course seemed to work. "I gained a lot of muscle, I was very thin, I looked very, very good in a very short period of time," he says. The effects were less dramatic than when he had taken steroids, but the SARMs seemed much safer and the side effects less severe. Aaron placed another order and went on to run three more cycles.  • Midway through his fourth cycle, Aaron noticed an alarming development: his testicles had shrunk. "I woke up one day and they were gone," he says. He stopped taking SARMs and started taking hormones in an attempt to boost his body's natural testosterone production. It did not work. "I was doing everything I could and they just weren't coming back," he says. "So I made the decision to turn to anabolics." Aaron believes he was sold oral steroids under the guise of SARMs, causing his body's natural testosterone production to be disrupted. He is now resigned to steroids on a permanent cycle: "I am ready to do what I am doing now for the rest of my life."
