The Public Works Department oversees the maintenance of 2,729 miles of roadways. Annually, 20-25 miles are added, utilizing the Hot In Place Recycling method for 20-45 miles. This method involves heating existing asphalt, scarifying to a depth of 1 inch, adding a recycling agent, and laying a new asphalt layer, achieving structural stability at lower costs—15-20% less expensive than traditional mill and overlay methods. The current contract (IFB #Y11-1039-J2) is aimed at addressing deteriorating pavement urgently, with a proposed award to Cutler Repaving, Inc. for $3,590,200.
