  3. All individuals in the U.S. on F-1 or J-1 visas must file tax forms with the Internal Revenue Service.

  4. What about F-1/J-1 students & J-1 scholars who did not earn any income in 2013? They do not have to pay taxes, but they—and their dependents--must send a form to the IRS.

  5. All individuals in the U.S. on F-1 or J-1 visas (and their dependents) who had no U.S. income MUST fileForm 8843”Statement for Exempt Individuals and Individuals with a Medical Condition”

  6. F-1/J-1 Students & J-1 Scholars: No U.S. Income • May include a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) • If they do not have a SSN, they no longer need to apply for an ITIN.
