  1. How to Choose Fridge Dimensions and Counter Depth

  2. The "Counter-Depth" refrigerator is a refrigerator designed to blend in with the surrounding cabinets and countertops. The size of the "counter depth" coolers is generally, the side-by-side model of the "counter depth" coolers is a little shallower than the standard coolers. They are also slightly wider or taller than the standard model, thus maintaining ample internal space. The base box depth of these refrigerators is typically 24 to 25 inches, but the overall depth (including the door) varies slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer.

  3. 1. The depth of the kitchen countertop may be slightly different • Base cabinets are typically 24 inches deep but are sometimes positioned slightly forward from the wall to allow room for backsplash. In some decorative treatments, the overhang of the kitchen counter can increase by 2 inches. It is not uncommon for the leading edge of the work surface to extend up to 28 to 30 inches from the rear wall. If the cabinets or countertops are customs made, the overall depth may be less or greater.

  4. 2. The so-called countertop depth refrigerator rarely exactly matches the countertop. Generally, the total depth from the back of the appliance to the front of the handle is approximately 30 inches. However, the depth of the refrigerator box itself (measured without the door) is typically 24 to 25 inches, which matches the depth of standard cabinets and countertops. This means that you can expect the refrigerator door to extend forward from the front edge of the standard counter.

  5. 3. Appliance manufacturers have several ways of expressing the depth of the refrigerator Sometimes these numbers differ by as much as 6 inches because some manufacturers measure the depth of the device at the edge of boxes without doors, some measure the front of the door, and some measure the front of the door handles and hardware. Make sure you understand the dimensions referenced in the measurement. Ideally, you should find several different depth measurement methods listed.

  6. The double door fridge may require a small space between the back of the appliance and the wall. This will make the total installation depth of the device slightly greater than the actual size.
