  2. TSWBAT create an Islamic textile by researching the colors used, fabric used, symbolism of the design and origin; collaborate with a partner. Date: Monday, November, 18 Warm-Up: Get into groups and sign out a computer if they want one or need one; display “model” for what the final product should look like Activity: Complete textile with partner

  3. TSWBAT explain the importance of textile on the growth of Islam; analyze a video and describe the ancient city of Bagdad Date: Tuesday November, 19 Warm-Up: finish hanging remaining textiles (5 minutes); when complete, answer this question on the back of your worksheet: What is a “hajj” and what would you see/experience if YOU went on a hajj. Activity: Watch video #2 with worksheet discuss questions

  4. Warm up • ON the back of your video worksheet: • 1. Describe a hajj (look in your notes) • 2. What would you see or experience on a hajj?

  5. Closing questions • On the back of your worksheet answer these questions: • 3. How would you describe the Islamic world up to this point? • 4. Why do you suppose Islamic people would enjoy this sort of life/luxury? • 5. What would the Hajj have to do with this? • 6. Explain why we as Americans know less about Eastern cultures (Islam etc…) than we do about Western culture (Europe)

Information OPTIONS to include: • General information (birth name, where did they live, time period, image to represent them…) • Art, Science, Math, Medicine– explain what they were interested in (how and why). • What influence did they have on the history of the Islamic Empire? • What was going on in the Islamic World/ entire world during the life of this person? • Interesting facts about this person.

  13. Reflection • Chose one detail from the person you research and explain why their skills were important and useful during this time in history of the Islamic Empire. • 2 paragraphs (5 sentences each), correct grammar, sentence structure etc. • Neatly written
