Jesus’ Entry Fulfills Prophecy Mark 11:1-3 As they approached Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples, and said to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. “If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ you say, ‘The Lord has need of it’; and immediately he will send it back here.” 1. Genesis 49:10 “…until He comes…” 2. Zechariah 9:9 “…your King comes to you…” 3. Psalm 118:26 “Blessed is He who comes…”

  3. God’s Providential Hand Mark 11:4-6 They went away and found a colt tied at the door, outside in the street; and they untied it. Some of the bystanders were saying to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” They spoke to them just as Jesus had told them, and they gave them permission.

  4. What Kind of King Were They Looking For? Mark 11:7-8 They brought the colt to Jesus and put their coats on it; and He sat on it. And many spread their coats in the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields. • “The reference to the branches of green and the antiphonal singing recalls the entry into Jerusalem of Simon, the last of the five Hasmonean brothers, on a triumphal occasion” Lane, W.   6. The Lord Comes To His Temple Mark 11:11 Jesus entered Jerusalem and came into the temple; and after looking around at everything, He left for Bethany with the twelve, since it was already late. Malachi 3:1 Behold, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming,” says the LORD of hosts.

  7. Applications 1. We must believe that Jesus is the “One who comes” first as our lamb and a second time as our warrior. 2. We must remember that if Jesus isn’t first our Lamb who atones for our sin, we have no part with Him.

Jesus Is The “One Who Comes” Genesis 49:10-11 NET The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs; the nations will obey him. Binding his foal to the vine, and his colt to the choicest vine, he will wash his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes. Psalm 118:26 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD; We have blessed you from the house of the LORD.

  9. 1. Jesus Is The “One Who Comes” Mark 1:7 And he was preaching, and saying, “After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to stoop down and untie the thong of His sandals. Matthew 11:3 NET Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?” John 11:27 She said to Him, “Yes, Lord; I have believed that You are the Christ, the Son of God, even He who comes into the world.”

Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey. Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.

Jesus Must Be Our Lamb 10th Nisan (Monday) – Jesus enters Jerusalem 14th Nisan (Friday) – Crucified on Passover 15th Nisan (Saturday) – Unleavened Bread 16th Nisan (Sunday)- Raised on Feast of First Fruits Exodus 12:3a, 5 Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves…Your lamb shall be an unblemished male…
