  3. 9th Grade Football is a Transition Year. This is different than community football! It is a transition year for the players and for you as parents! Our goal in this presentation is to clarify how this year will be for you and your son.

  4. Program Philosophy To instruct the players in the main offensive plays and main defensives that they will be using through their high school career at Lakeville South. When they are sophomores they will build further on this base foundation.

  5. Playing time We play twice a week. Tue - B game Thu - A game We will attempt to two platoon each team We want to have 44 different starters, 11 offensive and 11 defensive per team. Players will move between teams as needed and based on development of their skills “A”games we play to win so playing time will be based on the skill &knowledge of the players “B”games more of the emphasis is on playing time. (we still want to win)

  6. Playing time (continued) Will be a transition based on how many teams in LFA at the 8th grade level. We are all one team now. (So we may have 4 - 5 athletes competing at the QB position.) We move players to positions where they will be successful for our team and their success. So some of your sons will be playing new positions.

  7. Attendance Need to be in practice and participate in practice to play in games. Exceptions: pre-excused by coach or trainer, (ortho, doctor, dentist we need to know ahead of the date to be missed)

  8. Practices First week: Mon - Thu 9:00 to 11:00, 12:30 to 2:30 Fri 9:00 to 11:30, 11:30 pictures then pizza ranch (find own rides) Second week: Mon-Tue 9:00 to 11:00, 12:30 to 2:30 Wed 9:00 to 11:00, 6:00 pm scrimmage Thu no am practice, 12:30 to 2:30 Fri 8:00 Scrimmage (starts at 9) During season Mon – Fri 2:45 to 5:00

  9. Equipment Needs to be school issued for insurance reasons.(if you have questions check with us) Personal gear: mouth guard, girdle pads, shoes, padded undershirt

  10. Injuries Football is a physical sport involving contact! • Players will have to learn difference between being sore and an injury. • Injury protocol--Coach--Trainer--Doctor • If the doctor is seen, we must have a written note from the doctor stating the return date to practice.

  11. Information for Parents Concerns: (talk to us sooner than later) player to coach player, parent and coach player, parent with coach and athletic director

  12. Parental Sideline Respect Parents have to stay outside the 25 yard line. (25 to 25 for team only) Cheer Positively for the team and individuals Respect the officials, (vary inskill, but they will not determine the outcome of the game, that will be based on how we play) Refrain from coaching, (hard but most of the time you do not know what we coaches have asked the playersto do)

  13. Parental Help At home games (A and B)we need 3 adults to help with the chains. (I would rather not ask the players to hold the chains)

  14. After Games Player and coaches meeting. Players ride the bus back to school. If you son was injured come and talk to us coaches so that we can relay information to you from the trainer. If you have concerns or want/need to talk with us please do, but understand that time may be limited after the game or it may be more appropriate to talk the next day.

  15. Thank You As coaches we are excited to have your sons to work with. We thank you for sharing them with us and we look forward to a successful season.
