My family loves eating playing games and going to movies together but we hate folding the laundry. 2. It would be nice Michael if you get into U of I on an academic scholarship. 3. I am going too the party with Tracy one of my best friends.

  2. What are we doing until the holiday break?-Today: journaling and reading TBE(try to finish it by Wednesday)-tomorrow you have PLAN in the morning and classes 4-8-Wed: we will read scenes from TBE and I am meeting with Black Ensemble Theater to put a plan in place for starting up-Rest of the week: wrap up TBE and finalize the colorism books you started in Mr. Mathew’s class-Next week: select independent reading books from the library

Hint: You should find nine errors! High school students often dont think about college until junior year but then its two late too make major changes. When you got youre progress report yesterday did you think about how it will affect your GPA. Students please think about what you can do now to improve your grades.

Colorism project – reminders for Friday • Mr. Mathew and I are printing all projects – four pages to a sheet. • Tomorrow you will get to pick your seat – you can sit alone or in a group of up to three. • You will be deciding how to combine your projects into one or you can pick one person’s to finalize in the lab next week. • You will have time to create a handwritten version of a page that will be lessons learned from The Bluest Eye.

  8. Wrap-Up Questions • What happens to Pecola by the end of the novel? Whose fault is that? • What does this novel establish as some of the complicating factors in black female identity? • This novel was published in 1970, a time when the slogan “Black is Beautiful” had gained great popularity. Claudia, the narrator, could very well have been an adult reflecting back on her childhood. What do you make of the historical timing of the novel’s publication? Why might the author, Toni Morrison, be trying to say? • Do you think the novel’s suggestion that Americans equate beauty with whiteness is still true in 2013?

  10. Today we will be… • Finishing The Bluest Eye summary sheets and turning them in. Please staple it to your bell ringer. • Working on the colorism project, so please make sure you are sitting with who you would like to work with.

The Colorism Project Remember we are working on final drafts of the projects - the drafts you did with Mr. Mathew were only graded for content, so… STEP 1: Decide where to sit and who you’ll work with. STEP 2: Share your project with your groups members. STEP 3: Decide whose project you will use or if you’ll combine parts from both (or all three) of your projects. STEP 4: Edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage, etc. STEP 5: On scratch paper, create another page for your book about The Bluest Eye. It must be 4-5 sentences about the plot of the novel and the overarching themes. Remember: Your audience is elementary school students, so make sure you only include content which is appropriate.
