  16. Predicate Adjectives Jacobs states Eleanor Roosevelt’s childhood fears through a series of predicate adjectives. Feelings unwanted, Eleanor became shy and withdrawn. She was afraid of the dark, afraid of animals, afraid of other children, afraid of being scolded, afraid of strangers, afraid that people would not like her.

  17. A predicate adjective follows a linking verb, such as be, seem, become, or feel and describes the subject. Tip#1: When you use a series of predicate adjectives, with or without a coordinating conjunction (and, or, but) separate them with commas: Eleanor felt plain looking, ordinary, and homely. Tip #2: Predicate adjectives are different from other adjectives because they come after the word they are describing, and they are separated from that word by a verb.

  18. Non-Fiction Quiz Retake • On a separated sheet of paper, answer the question. • Then show me where you can locate the information in your notebook. • Give me another example of poverty. • Tell me 3 key points that differentiates an autobiography to a biography. Locate where you found this in the notebook. • What does encourage mean? • Give me the steps to writing a summary and locate where you can find it in the notebook.
