Current Events #3 3. “Mesoamerican Discovery: Giant Maya Pyramid Carvings Found in City of Holmul in Guatemala.” 26’ stucco frieze depicts human figures (deified rulers) in mythological setting with hieroglyph inscriptions. Archaeologists made discovery while excavating a tunnel left open by looters / tomb raiders

Construction workers building a road found buried bodies interred near Medieval gallows (execution) site

  12. Why Study History? “History isn’t just about the past – settling old scores. It’s about the present and who we are.” - Ken Burns What do you think the author meant by this statement? We can’t change or fix the past or just worry about repeating mistakes. We are also making new history today and determining what makes history in the future.

Whoever writes the history, controls (decides) the way we view it; Whoever is in power now, controls what we learn about the past
