  4. 0 CMS at Mission • I have used a CMS like Blackboard or WebCT. • I haven’t used a CMS, but I am familiar with these tools. • I am somewhat familiar with these tools. • I do not know what a CMS is.

  5. 0 What is a CMS? • Internet (usually) based set of tools that integrate learning resources, communication, testing, calendar, gradebook, and collaboration for instruction, research, or team-related projects.

  6. 0 Next Generation from CMS to LMS • Enterprise software (integrated with SIS) • Tool set available for all classes • Passes data (grades) back to the SIS • Uses “library” for storage of content. • Support synchronous and asynchronous learning events. • Is accessible on handheld devices.

  8. 0 Angel Learning, Inc. Recommended to WVMCCD Board • The CMS team is recommending to the board of trustees on Sept. 1, 2005 that we enter into a contract with Angel Learning for three years to provide us with a district-wide LMS.

  12. 0 Implementation – Faculty Perspective • Current contract with BB and CVC extends for 05-06 (Oct. 31 change of hosting org.) • Pilot 5 BB courses this semester • Set up server, integrate with datatel, etc. • Start training in mid to late Oct. • Migrate all distance learning classes for spring semester and automate student account creation

  13. 0 Implementation cont. • If possible, make LMS available for all courses by spring 2006 • Integrate with datatel to pass grades from CMS to datatel summer 2006 • Training classes, distance, one-on-one

  14. 0 What’s in it for you? • Will be able to easily communicate with students—even before classes begin • Will be able to upload course materials in a password protected area • Will have access to a great grade book that is linked to the SIS • Can automate some routine tasks (grading quizzes, etc.) • Can customize learning for students

  15. 0 PotentialUse of LMS • I teach distance learning classes. • I don’t teach DL, but I would like to use the LMS as soon as it is available. • I would prefer to wait and see how this tool works before I use it for my classes. • I don’t think a LMS tool would be useful for my classes.
