  2. Making Connections • One of the ways we make sense of what we read is to connect new ideas we encounter in the things we read to things we already know. • There are three types of connections: • Text to self • Text to text • Text to world

  3. TEXT A text is anything someone creates to communicate meaning to others- this includes books, magazines, websites, photos, paintings, art, tv and video, songs, etc.

  4. There are three parts of a quality connection:

  5. Here’s an example from “The Wave” When I read this…. “All his life he had been befuddled by machinery – film projectors, cars, even the self service pump at the local gas station had driven him nuts.” This is what I thought of…I made a connection.
