  3. Science camp • 3rd Year • 300 K-4th graders from across the district • 2014 theme – Energy Registration for Summer 2015 will open in January

UIL Academics • The University Interscholastic League offers the most comprehensive literary and academic competitive program in the nation. • It offers more than any other UIL division in terms of activities, with 22 high school and 18 elementary and junior high contests. • More than a half million students participate in UIL academic contests.

  6. Advanced Placement • Offer college level classes and exams to high school students • American colleges and universities offer college placement and course credits to students who get high scores on their AP exams.

  7. 34 AP courses & Exams • Arts: Art History, Music Theory, Studio; Art (Drawing, 2‐D, 3‐D) • English: Language and Composition, Literature and Composition • History & Social Science: Comparative Government and Politics, European History, • Human Geography, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Psychology, United States Government and Politics, United States History, World History. • Mathematics & Computer Science: Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Computer • Science A, Statistics. • Sciences:: Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics 1 and 2, Physics C: • Electricity and Magnetism, Physics C: Mechanics • World Languages: Chinese Language and Culture, French Language, German Language, Italian Language and Culture, Japanese Language and Culture, Latin: Vergil, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature.

Research About Advanced Placement In general students who earn a 3 or higher on the exam … • perform well in subsequent college courses in the discipline. • perform well overall in their first year of college. • are more likely to graduate in four years. • are more likely to major in their AP subject or a related discipline. • are more likely to take dual enrollment courses.

  9. 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program Based on 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). National Merit Finalists represent fewer than 1% of all U.S. high school seniors.

  10. MISD Dual Credit Program • Provides juniors and seniors the opportunity to simultaneously earn high school credit and as many as 24 college hours • Encourages a smooth transition to a collegiate campus • Encouragesthe likelihood that a student will graduate from college (on time)

TREC collegiate • Exclusive to Frontier High School • An accelerated dual credit program exclusive to college Health Professions Education Program • Opportunity to simultaneously earn high school credit and up to 42 college hours • Encourages a smooth transition to a collegiate campus and students work toward achievement of a health related certification

  13. MISD Student Enrollment • For the 2014-2015 school year, the total student enrollment in Dual Credit courses, iStart, and TREC in MISD is 1071. • MISD has the largest number in Tarrant County including schools and districts that have two-three times the number of students our district has.

  14. MISD advanced academics Parent academy • Provides a collaborative learning opportunity for all MISD high school parents and guardians. • Focuses on college and career readiness. • Some items covered are; how to apply for college, ACT/SAT prep, Dual Credit, and Advanced Placement courses
