  1. THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME AT St. PAUL

  2. PRAYER “We would like to acknowledge that we are on sacred Indigenous Territory and thank the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nations for being stewards of this land.”

  3. International Baccalaureate Education Continuum The Diploma Programme for students aged 16 to 19 started in 1968 with first examinations in 1970 and is now offered by 2,451 IB World Schools. • Academicallychallenging and balanced programme of education with final examinations that prepares students for success at university and life beyond. • Addresses the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students. • The programme has gained recognition and respect from the world’s leading universities.

  4. International Baccalaureate Education Continuum The Diploma Programme for students aged 16 to 19 started in 1968 with first examinations in 1970 and is now offered by 2,451 IB World Schools. • It is a broad-based two-year programme that aims to encourage students to be knowledgeable and inquiring, but also caring and compassionate. • There is a strong emphasis on encouraging students to develop intercultural understanding, open-mindedness, and the attitudes necessary for them to respect and evaluate a range of points of view.

  5. WHAT DO UNIVERSITIES SAY? The University of Waterloo recognizes IB courses as an excellent academic preparation for success at the university level. McGill University recognizes the IB and to actively seek out IB students in its recruitment programs. Ouradmissions officers can be assured of the candidate's strong and broad-based academic preparation. We understand the IB program and we value the experience you’ve had as an IB student. Join the many IB students who have already made UBC – one of the most beautiful and respected universities in the world – their academic home. All students who have completed the IB Diploma or IB HL Certificates, and who have accepted their offer of admission, will be considered for advanced standing.

  6. UNIVERSITIES ABOUT THE I.B. DIPLOMA PROGRAMME RAY IVANY - President and Vice-Chancellor, Acadia University I am an unabashed fan of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program (…). My enthusiasm for IB is based on two observations from my career in higher education. First, the inherent intensity of the IB curriculum produces not only subject matter expertise, but it also develops significant discipline, time management and critical thinking skills. Second, the high school to university transition remains challenging and many students experience a GPA decline in their first term/year. In my experience, IB graduates often stand out in their ability to make a smooth and successful transition to university and, notably, maintain higher GPA levels of excellence than most other university students.

  7. ADVANTAGES of the IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME • Solid and broad-based university preparation  higher university grades and maintained scholarships through the course of studies. • Well-rounded educational program (including French, Extended Essay, CAS, TOK ). • Most students get to the program of their first choice. • Dual diploma program (OSSD and IB Diploma). • Increases the chances of doing well at university

  10. ASSESSMENT IN THE I.B. DIPLOMA PROGRAMME • Students also complete assessment tasks in the school, which are either initially marked by teachers and then moderated by external moderators or sent directly to external examiners. • The marks awarded for each course range from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest). • Assessment is criterion-related, which means student performance is measured against pre-specified assessment criteria based on the aims and objectives of each subject curriculum, rather than the performance of other students taking the same examinations.

  11. Creativity, Activity, ServiceExtended EssayTheory of Knowledge Theory of Knowledge(TOK) aims to make students aware of the interpretative nature of knowledge, including personal ideological biases. TOK is assessed through an oral presentation and a 1,600 word essay. It asks students to reflect on the nature of knowledge, and on how we know what we claim to know. Extended Essay is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper. Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) Studied throughout the Diploma Programme, CAS involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies. It is not formally assessed. However, students reflect on their CAS experiences as part of the DP, and provide evidence of achieving the eight learning outcomes for CAS.
