This project aims to build research capacity in development in Irish and African universities, focusing on health, education, gender, and ICT research. It includes workshops to assess research capacity, build relationships, and develop shared understandings. The project will also identify future partnerships and prioritize research themes.

  6. Workshop II: Nov ’08, Entebbe • Assessment of RC in all partner institutions - Interim report on opportunities and constraints to RCB • Priority research themes - Phase II Foresight (scenarios) - University visits • Towards common understandings - 4 discussion papers

Questions arising… How do our chosen priorities match those identified by specialists more broadly? • What do we (an eclectic group) understand by development and research capacity building for development? • How might gender related constraints be more effectively addressed within our partner institutions?

Workshop III: May ’09, Maputo • Towards common understandings: Development for poverty reduction in a globalised world • Concepts and theories • Lessons from policy and practice • Gender as a constraint to research capacity building • Priority research themes - Phase III Foresight (Ranking of priorities) - University visits

Moving forward… • Linking the themes and opportunities and constraints (final report) • Addressing specific constraints to RCB (Malawi summer school – end 2009) • Forging specific research partnerships (from the outcome of Foresight and Stakeholder Consultation work) - Who? - What?
