  4. SADCMEL Aims of SADCMEL • Develop and maintain confidence in Legal Metrology activities in Region • Maintain equivalence of LM activities • Remove LM regulatory TBTs in Region • Promote consistent application of technical requirements

  5. SADCMEL Achievement of Aims To harmonise technical requirements: • Members agreed to adopt OIML Recommendations • Draft and adopt SADC requirements where OIML not available e.g. Mechanical counter scales Sale of commodities

  6. SADCMEL SADCMEL TC 1 meeting • Held 21 March in Swaziland • 6 members attended • 1 associate member attended • Discussed proposed amendments to SADCMEL 1 & 4 • Agreed to propose amendments to SADCMEL

  7. SADCMEL SADCMEL Annual meeting • Held 25 March in Swaziland • 12 members attended • 2 associate members attended • Observers OIML, PTB, EU Fund delegation • Addressed by Ian Dunmill of BIML • Ratified amendments to SADCMEL documents

  8. SADCMEL SQAMEG meetings • 2 Coordinating meetings held to discuss admin matters • Annual meeting held in Swaziland on 27 March 2010

  9. SADCMEL Capacity Building • 2 Year funding project concluded • 17 different training courses - 413 persons trained • Model law based on OIML D1 developed • Final needs workshop • Awareness and evaluation visit to 7 member countries • No equipment supplied for sustainability

  10. SADCMEL International liaisonsOIML • Received report from BIML at 24th SADCMEL meeting • Presented report at the RLMO meeting in Kenya, Mombassa during October 2009

  11. SADCMEL International liaisons AFRIMETS • SADCMEL attending the AFRIMETS GA in Egypt September 2010 • Mr. Albasini (SADCMEL Mozambique) is vice Chair for Legal Metrology • Mr. Carstens (SADCMEL SA) heads the secretariat
